Description
Circular engraved silver tray with raised rim decorated with reeding and crossed ribbon motifs. Tray rests on four legs ornately moulded featuring palmettes, acanthus and scrolls. Text and monogram has been engraved on upper surface of tray. Five small round apertures present around body of tray. The dish is inscribed and reads "PRESENTED TO// THE HON. SIR. OWEN DIXON K.C.M.G// BY// J.R. WILLIAMS// SALVAGE SHIP "CLAYMORE// THIS PLATE WAS RECOVERED FROM THE BULLION ROOM// R.M.S. "NIAGARA"// SUNK IN 438 FEET OF WATER// AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE HAURAKI GULF N.Z".
