Object detail
The vessel was offered by the owner to the New Zealand Government for use by the NZ Armed Forces in the First World War. Nautilus served as a hospital launch for the transfer of wounded personnel from the shore to the care of a hospital ship and operated in both in the Mediterranean Sea and the English Channel in this capacity.
The livery is designed to deter enemy attacks having three red crosses to identify her medical role in the war theatre. The hull is painted white with a contrasting green gunwale band.
