Description
Port side view of SS SOUTHERN CROSS (1903) berthed at Auckland. Ferry building tower visible in background.

Ship built for Missionary work among the Solomon and New Herbides Islands with headquarters at Auckland. Registered owner was the Bishop of Melanesia.

Foss Tackaberry was an engineer with the Auckland Harbour Board. He became the foreman of works on the waterfront. He retired mid 1960s but was re-hired to oversee the floating of the dredge HAPAI.
