Object detail

The purple colouring is darker on the ventral side [near the aperture] and lighter on the spire.The spiral shell is thin and lightweight. This shell is from a pelagic marine gastropod; a sea snail species which drifts upside down on the surface of the ocean using bubble rafts to stay afloat.
Part of a collection of predominantly Pacific region sea shells and New Zealand seabird eggs collected by Frances Shakespear.
