Object detail

Description
A wooden ship's wheel, attributed to TIRI II, the ship which was used to broadcast Radio Hauraki from 1968 to 1970. The king spoke is marked with a Turks head knot in brown cord. The central boss is metal. The wheel has a projecting brass handle fitted on the outer rim to assist in fast rotation of the wheel.
The vessel was referred to as TIRI II by the radio station crew but it appears the registration was never changed from MV KAPUNI (1909).
