Pair of epaulettes displaying two gold braid bands with brass button attached and one detached on black fabric. Tie-on fastenings and a brass button for attachment to uniform shirt at shoulders. Indicating a rank as Second Radio Officer.

Worn by Phillippa [Pip] Were during her career as a ship's radio officer with the New Zealand Shipping Corporation and other lines, she progressed to the rank of Senior Radio Officer over the seventeen years of her career.
