Description
Black and white photograph of grounded wreck on beach. From a series of twelve black and white prints of wrecks, images taken by Jeremy Lowe in the early 1960s.
Series includes wrecks of the scows VIXEN and RIMU (1896) at Awaawaroa Bay, Waiheke Island, and wreck of the coal-hulk Eure (1886) on Northcote Beach. The remains of VIXEN and RIMU (1896) are confirmed by Colin Gordon, farmer at the bay, whose father brought VIXEN and another scow there in 1940's to scrap it for timber, to rebuild the wharf.
