Description
Campaign medal and bar awarded to George M. Parsons for service as a radio officer in the British Merchant Navy. Unworn, ribbon, bar and medal separate. One in a series of eight campaign stars instituted in 1945 to recognise service in World War II. The Pacific Star was awarded for operational service in the Pacific between 8 December 1941 and 2 September 1945.
Description: bronze six pointed star, 43mm diameter with a ring suspender and grosgrain ribbon. Obverse: the Royal cypher ‘GRI’ with ‘VI’ below; the cypher is surmounted by a crown on a circlet with the title ‘THE PACIFIC STAR’. The reverse is plain. Ribbon: grosgrain, 32mm wide. The centre of the ribbon is dark green (jungle) with a central yellow stripe (beach). On the outer edges are red (Army), dark blue (Navy) and light blue (Air Force).
