Description
A wooden outrigger paddling vaka model, carved in a simple style, the hull is a solid piece of carved wood which has shallow carved interior each end of the vaka hull has two notches incised into the surface and a notched recess cut on the bottom surface of fore and after ends.

The hull is attached to the flat ama (outrigger float) by two booms spaced widely apart project out from ama, lashed with sennit to pa-tiatia (outrigger connectives). A flat cut out hoe (paddle) with large ovate blade with pointed tip is lashed lengthways across the vaka hull and kiatos.

A souvenir purchased by Don Hamer, 3rd Officer in SS WAITEMATA (1908), Union Steam Ship Company when the ship was in the Cook Islands.
