Description
Black and white photograph of an anti-aircraft gun on the deck of the ship RANGITATA (1929). Two naval sailors in uniform are standing beside it. The image is captioned: "The Rangitata's armament". Verso reads: "Rangitata".

Cliff Hawkins sailed on this ship returning with his mother, Elizabeth Hawkins, to New Zealand from the United Kingdom in 1941, and volunteered as a member of the civilian watch made up of passengers onboard.
