A black and white glass plate photograph showing passenger ship from the Union Steam Ship Company berthed at wharf. The ship is illuminated by its lights at night. A hilly landscape is visible in the background. [The location is possibly Lyttelton port].

An annotation is scratched onto the surface of the glass plate which reads: "RANGITATA, RANGITANE".
