Description
Model/miniature: Boyz Bach.

Bach and maker details

The bach was made in 2004 as part of a workshop project with miniature club members. Several chose to make a traditional bach, but this one has been modelled after a “renovated” design.

Trilby doesn’t include figures in the models because she says “they tend to freeze action”. Devoid of inhabitants, its easy to imagine the men having just gone out, or about to arrive back home. Their absence liberates us to “look around”. The roof of the bach lifts off to allow for closer inspection.

Trilby is particularly pleased with the layout of separate living areas in the bach and the Louis Vuitton travel bag made of Fimo and Painted.

The bach was exhibited in an Objectspace exhibition called Small Wonders in 2007

Note: the museum also has a ships’ writing room made by Trilby in its collection.

Story:
The bach is a holiday home and belongs to a fictitious gay couple. It was inherited by one of the men (a NZer) from an elderly aunt

The couple live in a New York apartment. Trilby built another model of their apartment. (On a trip to New York, she took photographs of architectural mouldings such as gargoyles which feature in the model).

The personalities of the characters – Jon (lawyer) and Julian (airline pilot) – developed as work on the bach progressed. Some of their characteristics and design tastes are based on acquaintances she has known in the past. The fact that the men are gay enables her to have fun with design and furnishings that might be considered OTT in another setting.
