An original black and white photograph of German prisoners onboard TSS MARAMA (1907). Most are visibly wounded, wearing bandages on various injuries. The wounded men are lined up on both sides of a covered walkway, some on folding chairs and others on benches. One uniformed guard is standing amongst the wounded holding a rifle with a bayonet attached. Handwritten caption reads "German prisoners on board the Marama en route to England".
From an album of photographs taken from HMNZHS No. 2 (TSS MARAMA) spanning the years 1915-1917, during MARAMA's operation as a World War I hospital ship.
